Key words: A visit to a Malay Garden, Chek Jawa the hard way,
wild boar and screaming piglet..
I was thirsty and the lure of the cold coke was too
strong. So we cycled back to the Jetty and quenched our thirst in one of the shops.
To our surprise Coke - costs only $0.80 a can ! The next destinations were
either the Quarry (western end) or Chek Jawa (eastern end). We decided the
later. I guess CJ publicity had something to do with the choice. We
got our general direction right and eventually found ourselves in the
same Mak Chek's house again. By then she had start working in the garden.
She told us to proceed further down the track. Minutes later we
found ourselves with a 'so-so' seashore view instead. What lies
beyond did not look like any proper track. Hoever we noticed some narrow paths ahead
and decided to follow it. Many times we had
to push our bike over fallen trees. The undergrowth was light and mosquitoes
were not that many. Relying on my $2.80 button compass we continue pushed
eastwards eventually hitting a proper track. The uphill road forced us to push our bike
for the nth times again. I stopped to catch my breath in the middle of no-way and was
wondering what lies beyond the 'bent'. Overhead SAF jets zoomed pass. Luckily it was
a downhill ride and moments later we found ourselves in the much
talk-about Chek Jawa. So this is it! The tide
was beginning to come in. With the tide in Chek Jawa was nothing (no wonder it
was not discovered till recently) We had our lunch. I was too
dehydrated and not much appetite for my peanut-butter-cheese sandwiches.
On our way back we saw a wild boar by the dirt track. He(She) was gnawing
on a low height plant and I stopped to take a few fotos. The short-sighted boar
just ignore us. Minutes later
