June 04 Meteors & Misc -
Sky condition was 'far' from perfect. On most night - you will
be lucky to see more than a handful of stars. Most of the frames
showed clouded out sky but some meteors were caught.
To
increase recording time per session I combined a x2 hour Hi-8 tape
on video-walkman with another VCR with 240 minutes tape(
pre-programmed to start recording on the 3rd hours onwards). With this
combination I can get a total of 6 hrs of recording. Skypatrol
- 4ccd version was used to crunch the 5 minutes stack in the background
throughout the entire recording duration. Recognized star field was
used for the starting frame to facilitate post processing position
reduction if the needed. For quickie - star field ID - I use
SkyMapPro version 5 to line up the starting star field and by dialing
new frame time. I have yet to use sky patrol log files info.
The raw still frames were then archived on CD and the tapes
recycled. I watched hopelessly on June 23 as thick clouds prevented
me from trying out on the newly predicted June Bootes.
* Star trails are caused by stacking all frames within
the 5 minutes duration.
